New York City, New York

This is the city that never sleeps. There is so much to do here that you need at least 2 weeks to do it in, maybe more. New York City has 5 boroughs - the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. When people hear the term New York City they automatically mean Manhattan. The main focus of NYC is Manhattan. There is so much to see and do here.

One of the most well-liked activities to do in New York City is to take a ferry to Ellis Island, the home of the Statue of Liberty. The Statue as most people know was a gift from France in 1886. For many years you were allowed to go inside the Statue and even go into the torch and crown area but since the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, visitors are prohibited from going into the crown and the torch until further notice.

Empire State BuildingAnother great site to see is the Empire State Building. In 1986 , the Empire State Building was recognized as a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior. The Empire State Building was once the tallest building in the state until the North Tower of the World Trade Center was built in 1972. With the untimely destruction of the towers, the Empire State Building once again became the tallest building in the State and the second tallest in the country.

Ground Zero is now a part of history. This landmark (a memorial is currently being constructed to be called "Reflecting Absense") is a remembrance of the thousands of lives that where lost to the hands of terrorists.

There are so many great things to see while in New York City, that people of all ages will find something that interests them to do here. You can visit the great landmark of Central Park, which has the most visitors to any park in the United States. You canpay a visit to Little Italy and Chinatown for some cultural experiences. The New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street are very informative as to how the stock market works in conjunction with the rest of the world.

New York City is a melting pot of people and there is not a race or an ethnicity that you won’t find here. This is what Ellis Island was all about. If you want to really have some fun, you can go on a day cruise around the island of Manhattan on the Circle Line Cruise or take a trip to Chelsea Pier. If you are visiting New York City in the summer or fall, you can take in a Mets or Yankees baseball game, which is always a good time, win or lose. Anything that New York City has to offer, take advantage of it while you are here, especially if you think this could be your only trip to New York.
